Automatic Gate Openers in Portland & Vancouver
An automatic gate turns your driveway into controlled access: open it from the car, buzz in a delivery from your phone, and never leave the driver's seat in the rain. We install and service swing and slide operators for homes, farms, and commercial sites.
The right opener for your gate, your driveway, and your budget
Gate operators fail when they're undersized for the gate's weight and cycle count. We install equipment rated for your actual gate: residential swing arms, heavy slide operators for commercial cycles, and solar packages for long rural driveways where trenching power doesn't pencil out.
Access options
- Remotes and in-car transmitters
- Keypads and card readers
- Smartphone app and Wi-Fi control
- Telephone and video entry for multi-tenant sites
- Vehicle exit sensors and free-exit loops
- Battery backup so the gate works in an outage
Safety is not optional
An automatic gate is heavy and it moves on its own, so we install every one to UL 325 safety standards: photo eyes, obstruction reversal, and proper entrapment protection zones. If someone quotes you an operator install without safety devices, that's not a lower price. It's a missing part of the job.
Good to know
Automatic Gate Openers: common questions
Can my existing gate be automated?
Often, yes, as long as the gate is square, swings freely, and the posts are solid. If it isn't, we'll tell you what needs rebuilding first rather than bolting an operator to a failing gate.
What happens when the power goes out?
Operators we install include battery backup and a manual release, so you're never locked in or out during an outage.
Do solar gate openers work in the Northwest?
Yes. Modern solar operators are designed for low-light climates and work well here for typical residential cycle counts, especially on rural driveways where running power would cost more than the whole system.
Do you service openers you didn't install?
Yes. We repair and service most major operator brands, and we'll give you a straight answer if a unit is at the end of its life.
What safety sensors does an automatic gate need?
Since the 2016 revision of the UL 325 standard, monitored photo eyes or edge sensors are required at every entrapment point, and a compliant operator will not run in automatic mode without them connected. That's a feature, not a nuisance: the gate stops or reverses before it closes on a car, a pet, or a child. Every install we do includes them, wired and tested.
Should I choose solar or wired power for my opener?
Distance and duty cycle decide it. Near existing power, a hardwired operator costs less and supports heavier gates with frequent traffic. On long rural entries, trenching conduit gets expensive fast, and a solar package with a properly sized battery keeps up with normal family comings and goings. Shaded sites need a bigger panel or a wired feed, and we'll assess yours honestly.
Where should the keypad or intercom go?
Far enough back from the road that a driver can pull fully out of traffic while entering the code, and mounted at a comfortable reach from a car window, which is lower than most people guess. On busy driveways we set a second pedestal inside for exiting, or use a free-exit sensor instead. Placement details like these decide whether you love the gate or curse it.
