Fencing in Sellwood-Moreland
From Antique Row on SE 13th to the bluff above Oaks Bottom, we build fences that suit century-old houses and the people keeping them up.
This corner of Southeast Portland kept its streetcar-era housing stock: Victorians, foursquares, and bungalows from a time when a fence was part of the architecture rather than an afterthought. We treat it that way. We match picket profiles to porch trim, keep privacy runs from towering over a 1910 cottage, and set arbors and gates that look like they have always been there. Houses this old deserve fences made with the same care that built them.
Period looks, modern bones
Walk from the antique shops toward Westmoreland Park and you pass a century of fence styles in a dozen blocks. When we replace one, the goal is the fence the house would have chosen: square pickets under a Victorian bay window, clean horizontal boards behind a remodeled bungalow, a scalloped top where the old photos show one. Underneath, the construction is current. Galvanized anchors, exterior-grade fasteners, and rails sized so the panels stay flat through a wet February. The parts you can see honor the house. The parts you cannot see are the reason the gate still swings true when the next owner inherits it.
Bluff wind, big trees, and river dogs
Building above the Willamette means gusts funneling off the water and mature street trees whose roots ignore property lines. We hand-dig near root zones and shift post spacing rather than cut through a major root, and on sloped ground we follow the grade instead of stepping down it awkwardly. For households with dogs bound for the off-leash stretch by the river, we hang self-closing gates with latches you can work one-handed while holding a leash. An estimate costs nothing and comes with straight talk about where your money does the most good on an older property. Reach Evergreen Gate & Fence Works at (503) 555-0187.
We cover the rest of the city too: see our Portland fence company page for services, permit rules and the neighborhoods around you.
