Fence Repair & Replacement in Portland & Vancouver
One leaning section doesn't have to mean a whole new fence. We repair storm damage, reset posts, and replace failed sections, and when a fence really is done, we'll show you why and quote a replacement that outlasts the last one.
Common repairs we handle
- Wind-thrown panels and storm damage
- Rotted or snapped posts reset in new concrete
- Sagging rails and popped boards
- Gate rehangs and hardware
- Section-by-section replacement to spread cost over time
- Tear-out and haul-away of failed fences
The honest repair-versus-replace math
Here's how we look at it: a fence is posts, rails, and boards, and posts are the skeleton. If your posts are sound, almost anything above them is worth repairing. If more than a third of the posts are failing, repairs become a subscription: you'll pay for the same fence twice. We'll walk the line, probe the posts, and give you both numbers so you can decide with real information.

Fence Repair & Replacement: common questions
A storm blew down part of my fence. Can you fix just that part?
Yes, section repairs are everyday work for us, especially after the east-wind storms that come through the Gorge end of the metro. We match existing materials as closely as weathering allows.
Who pays for a shared fence between neighbors?
In Oregon and Washington, adjoining owners generally share responsibility for a true boundary fence, but arrangements vary. Many neighbors split our invoice 50/50, and we're happy to write the quote so it's easy to share.
Can new boards be made to match my weathered fence?
New cedar starts out warm-toned and weathers toward gray over a season or two. We can recommend a stain to blend the repair faster if the contrast bothers you.
How fast can you get to a repair?
Small repairs usually land on the schedule faster than full builds. Tell us if the fence is down and containing a dog. We prioritize those.
Can you replace fence posts without replacing the panels?
Yes, when the boards and rails are still sound. We detach the section, pull the rotten post, set a replacement in concrete, and reattach your existing fencing. It costs far less than new sections and buys years of life. The catch is handling: old panels get brittle, so we'll tell you on site if any section won't survive the move.
Will homeowners insurance cover my storm-damaged fence?
Many policies cover fencing under other-structures coverage when wind or a falling tree takes it down, minus your deductible. We can't promise what your carrier will do, but we provide detailed written estimates with photos that adjusters accept, and we've worked alongside plenty of claims. Check your deductible first, because on a small repair, filing may not be worth it.
Can a leaning fence be straightened without new posts?
Sometimes. If a post is sound wood that heaved or worked loose in soft ground, we can plumb it and re-pour its footing. If the post snapped or rotted at grade, straightening is temporary, because the break sits below where you can see. We probe each post near the soil to tell the difference, and quote whichever fix will still be standing in five years.
